How to write a winning ‘call for papers’ submission for BIM Show Live 2018

At BIM Show Live we never follow tradition and that’s what makes our show special.

As we approach our 6th BIM Show Live we pride ourselves on our unique offerings, it’s a place to go for the new, the quirky, the exciting and the challenging – we love it and hope you do too!

We carefully select our speakers through a call for papers process, inviting industry experts from across the globe to pitch their ideas to secure one of our sought after seminar slots.

Following the structure of four seminar streams; Data, Stories, Next Generation and Strategy, we want to hear about the great stuff people have been doing over the last year and what they are planning for the future.

Call for papers is open and now’s the time to have a think and see if you want to share all of the great things you have been doing with the wider community. I know we have a week to go so this is about the time when everyone starts to think…I better get that paper in!

We know we all leave it until the last minute and well done to those who have got their submissions in early. Obviously, the project managers who are always prepared!

And for those of you who need a little help with your paper, here’s my 5-step guide to writing a winning call for papers submission.

  1. Always start with an awesome title….

Take your time and consider what seminar title will grab people’s attention the most, what will make them select your talk and sit down and listen to you for the next 40 or so minutes.

And make sure that it describes your content in an honest, but attractive way – you don’t want to mislead people into what they are just about to experience.

  1. Make sure your audience will stay awake!

We’re seeking content that is to be not only informative, but interesting for our cross-industry sectors from manufacturing, design, engineering, building and beyond. We understand it’s difficult to cater for everyone, which is why it’s essential to capture people’s interest from the start – what have you got to say that they won’t hear from anyone else?

  1. We do like a good story

Sharing knowledge and insight is an excellent start, but it’s not enough. We want practical, hands-on “real” experiences – and if they were successful even better! We’re looking for people who are helping to shape the future of the digital built environment and are willing to share the how, why, when, where and what.

  1. Technology is cool

Technology experts and data pioneers are the bread and butter of BIM Show Live, this is what people come for, the detail, mechanics and the real meat on the bones – how it all works. We’re looking for hard-core BIM and how you’re using it to refine every aspect of the design and build process.

  1. Keep it short

For the papers submission we just need a snap-shot of what you plan to say, the movie trailer of your talk, pick all the best bits and wow us Hollywood style.
