A Senior Dutch Business Consultant has praised the modern attitudes towards Building Information Modelling, stating that there has never been “so much emphasis on the need to exchange document-driven processes for data-driven processes”.

IFS Benelux‘s Chris Thomassen wrote a guest article for Cobouw within which he gave an overview of BIM, complimenting the process as responsible for a “revival of the construction sector”.

“[BIM] is the source of master data structures and the basis for all business functions”, explains Chris. “Construction companies that do not have a connected or integrated automatic process, will soon have high overhead costs and inefficiency. Then there is a chance that they will be overtaken by competitors with smarter systems that offer capable of better prices and faster work to deliver.”

To ensure that the aforementioned does not happen, Thomassen believes we need to “integrate business processes and optimize information flow”, and the time to do that has come:

“The construction sector has never laid so much emphasis on the need to exchange document-driven processes for data-driven processes. If there’s one thing that BIM has made clear, it is that companies focusing on the design and construction of complex buildings and infrastructure [are] in need of integrated software solutions that help them manage their time, budgets, costs and risks effectively.”
