In April, the beta version of the Digital BIM Toolkit was released, the tool that was billed as the missing puzzle piece in the BIM Task Group and UK Government’s Level 2 suite of documents. With the release of the toolkit, adhering to BIM Level 2 should be easier than ever in the run-up to 2016.
Not yet utilising it? Ahead of the full release in the Autumn, The B1M have released a video that will get you up to speed with the toolkit as it is now and should bridge the gap until the new version comes out.
National Building Specification led the team that were tasked to work on the toolkit, with their Director of Design and Innovation, Dr. Stephen Hamil explaining all there is to know about his team’s creation in a presentation conducted at the University of Westminster. The B1M recorded the presentation back in March, with it being released today to view.
In the clip, Stephen says that what his team have created is all “about interopability” and is “about defining information requirements – it’s not doing your drawings, specifying or cost analysis – its clear job is to define who is doing what and when.”

BIMcrunch have also covered the Digital BIM Toolkit’s release extensively. Our Editor Jack White praised it in an edition of his Editorial, whilst we compiled a list of industry opinions, most of which reacted positively to what the tool can do. We also spoke to NBS’ Stefan Mordue about it in an audio Crunch Time interview.
