Building Information Modelling built environment group buildingSMART UK have announced their new Chair and Vice Chair.

buildingSMART, the open BIM body that operates worldwide, announced the major changes to their UK division with the appointment of Professor Jeremy Watson and Anne Kemp as Chair and Vice Chair respectively. Replacing UK BIM Task Group Chairman Mark Bew, Watson is the BRE‘s Chief Scientist and Engineer. Replacing Professor Tim Broyd as Vice Chair, Kemp is Director of BIM at Atkins.

With experience representing the UK at various BIM conferences such as GeoBIM Europe 2014, Kemp seems like a logical choice to Vice Chair a group whose primary aim is to have the entire construction sector work more efficiently and achieve the highest degree of project collaboration possible.

Speaking about their appointment was Nick Tune, buildingSMART UK’s Director. He stated: “We are now just over a year away from the Government’s deadline on BIM Level 2 – the industry has made considerable progress but we have a way to go to meet the ‘go live’ target and we need to start progressing Level 3.

“Both Jeremy and Anne have the experience and energy to build on the great work done by Mark and Tim in this space – Jeremy recently led on the technical aspects of Governments BIM Level 3 strategy and Anne leads on BIM for infrastructure and the alignment of BIM and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) – we are very pleased to have them on board.”
