The #GlobalBIMCrew are known for being an incredibly lively, sociable and helpful group of people who love to discuss their experiences within the Building Information Modelling sector whilst attending a plethora of nationwide BIM events. How would you like to get to know even more about your fellow BIM enthusiasts and experts? Crunch Time will let you learn more about your fellow industry members as they answer fun questions against the clock.
In the hotseat today is Jimi Clarke of Building Information Modelling consultancy, Evolve. Jimi discusses Evolve’s planned Autodesk Revit training courses for 2015 and what other services they offer. On the personal side of things, Jimi chats about his work as a Strategic Consultant, hosting a dinner party for Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix (a lot of Jims around!) and being addicted to TV shows. The latter is surprising as working in the world of BIM does not normally leave spare time!
Firstly Jimi before you get strapped in the Crunch Time hotseat, can you explain a little more to listeners about Evolve and the work that you do within the company?
We are Technical and Strategic consultants in the AEC industry. What that means in practice is that we work with our clients very much as team members in order to improve workflows, compliances and use of technology. Naturally the cornerstone of this is BIM and all that may or may not fall under the BIM umbrella. Development, Implementation, Customisation, Support, Learning Development… you name it.
Recently, Evolve announced their 2015 series of BIM training workshops and you guys known your stuff as you are offering training for several kinds of software. Can you explain a little more about those workshops that will commence next year?
Our training sessions aim to educate teams on technical abilities on any given platform BIM, CAD, Other Graphics, Collaboration etc. That is a given. But the underlying theme is always to improve the project teams understanding and approach to a BIM project. Firing up ABD or Revit is a good start, but it doesn’t make it BIM. The teams need to understand how Planning, Communication, Capabilities etc. should be approached and this is very closely linked to BIM Maturity, EIR, BEP, BS1192, PAS1192, Roles and responsibilities etc. We want the project teams to be well-oiled and the grease is the BIM Awareness as well as technical abilities.
Right, it’s time for the main portion of the interview. The #UKBIMCrew and beyond are going to get to know a little more about you Jimi as you answer some quick fire questioning.
Which three celebrities, alive or dead would you invite to a dinner party and why?
Well I should say Jesus, Moses and Mohammed. Maybe we could sort some current affairs out. But being me I must say. Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Tommy Lee. I would go on Bass after the No7 starter.
What is your biggest phobia?
Under Performing. A bad day of work means I can’t sleep and that makes the next day more difficult to get back on track.
What is your favourite drink and why?
It’s got to be water since all other drinks are water based. Water is pure and clean and water purifies and cleans. Wrap your head around that!
What is your claim to fame?
DJ and Musician and a bit of sport personality with some TV coverage. But, I’m working on the Consultant recognition now. Much better!
Name the two objects you would take with you on a desert island?
A solar powered generator and my Evolve Laptop.
What is your go-to karaoke track?
Hail to the King by Avenged Sevenfold
Favourite musician or band?
Motley Crue – all-time favourite since 1983! (Insert an appropriate hand gesture here)
Favourite TV Show?
Hi, my name is Jimi and I am a TV Show Addict. Some pretty good ones are Fringe, The Wire, 24 and Sons of Anarchy. Right now I’m watching Californication, super shallow but so funny.
What was the last thing you laughed at?
Filtering out the pictures I could not send to you for this interview.
Which actor/actress would you choose to play yourself in a film of your life?
I don’t know if I would like a movie about me made but Keifer Sutherland was cool in 24 and there has been some photographic resemblances in the past, so why not?
Check back for the next instalment of Crunch Time on Friday, December 12th, 2014.
