Part of the Autodesk BIM 360 range of cloud products that includes BIM 360 Field and BIM 360 Glue, the new BIM 360 Layout iOS app will allow MEP contractors to access their Building Information Models on an unprecedented scale that they have been unable to before.
The new app combines data from the digital model with a robotic instrument in the physical world manufactured by Topcon Corp. Working via WiFi, the mechanical instrument is guided to various locations on the jobsite, locations that are based on points in the 3D model.
Manual layout techniques that may cause errors are now a thing of the past as the app replaces those with “laser-guided precision”. This provides a faster construction time and a cheaper project.
“As we expand our mobile and cloud portfolio for construction, we are creating new, more efficient ways of working for construction teams,” said Autodesk’s Vice President of Building and Collaboration Products, Jim Lynch. “With tools like BIM 360 Layout, we are helping our customers bring constructability to life by managing data across multiple platforms and formats and by helping to streamline the touch points that allow for higher levels of project collaboration, increased productivity with fewer errors.”
