A recent seminar held in Hong Kong, China has featured talks from BIM-experienced engineers who have shared their knowledge of working under Hyder Consulting.

Organised by the Association of Consulting Engineers of Hong Kong (AECHK), the recent seminar featured appearances from Hyder Consulting’s Stephen Xia and Eric Li, who are a Senior Facade Engineer and Hyder’s Sector Managing Director – Geotechnical and Marine, Hong Kong respectively at Hyder (pictured right and third right respectively).

The aim of the panel discussion was to update industry attendees about the state of BIM adoption in Hong Kong. The seminar provided a platform for construction experts to discuss the government’s plans to issue 25 projects in which BIM implementation is mandatory.

Xia discussed in his presentation that although BIM has been around in Hong Kong for over a decade, it was seen as a gimmick by construction firms and it is finally being recognised as a process that is simply not going to go away. Xia was offered an invitation to join the Construction Industry Council (CIC) at the event also.

Professionals present also discussed how BIM will be instrumental in resolving space conflictions within the region, allowing the industry to plan new ways of building offices and homes.
