Trimble Buildings, the software solutions company based in California, have previewed a new app that uses Building Information Modelling software to scan through walls.
Equipment World are reporting that Trimble have been developing a concept app for one of Google’s latest projects, Project Tango. Using cameras and sensors, Project Tango enables Android smartphone and tablet owners to track their movements in a 3D environment whilst mapping out their surroundings at the same time.
Trimble’s app that works with Project Tango is named Through The Wall, which enables the user to get “real time information they can act on while using it.” Using BIM software such as Tekla Structures, Through The Wall reveals heating equipment, air conditioning, overlay piping, ventilation and electrical wiring behind walls.
Vice President of Trimble’s Construction Technology Divisions Bryn Fosburgh spoke about Through The Wall. He said:
“Trimble’s leadership in technologies for building design, construction and renovation – as well as our portfolio of positioning, modelling and visualization software – made it only natural for us to develop a Tango concept application that tracks and displays what is behind a wall. Since Tango devices are designed to be aware of their environment and location, they provide an excellent complement to our strategy of making construction more efficient and transparent.”
