Streamlining BIM workflows and improved decision-making using the VEO-powered Newforma Model Viewer – Tim Bates

Newforma® Project Center is a project information management (PIM) solution that is used by over 700 firms worldwide to manage information in more than a million design and construction projects.

Newforma® Building Information Management is an add-on module to Newforma Project Center that integrates building information modelling with project information management. Coupling BIM with PIM technologies enables more informed decisions to be made more quickly, reduces risk, differentiates your company, and improves the entire design and construction process of a project.

This session will give a live overview of the two main components of the Newforma Building Information Management module:

  • The Newforma Project Information Link, which controls all aspects of connecting models to projects, as well as publishing and synchronising sheets and other BIM data between Autodesk® Revit® and Newforma Project Center. This empowers the people and processes surrounding BIM with broader input to technical design processes whilst also enabling those team members to repurpose information derived from BIM to drive adjacent or downstream project processes
  • The Newforma Model Viewer, powered by M-SIX™ VEO™ technology, enables any project team member to view and navigate models published to the cloud via the Newforma Project Information Link

An overview of the following areas will be covered in the session:

Linking building model elements to project information

  • Linking the model’s space and system elements with Newforma Project Center-managed items such as markups, RFIs, submittals, and action items to enable more informed decisions and create spatial contexts for project information
  • Streamlining the management of space planning by synchronising data between the model and spatial index logs in Newforma Project Center
  • Streamlining the management of sheets generated from the building model by synchronising them with the Newforma Document Control activity centre

Extending access to the model

  • Newforma/VEO-published models may be viewed and navigated using the Newforma Model Viewer, initially accessible to internal project team members and subsequently accessible to external team members, based on allocated roles and permissions
  • The Model Viewer provides access to models without users having to own or know BIM design software
  • The software maintains version histories of each published model throughout the project lifecycle
  • Project team members can see the design/construction history of a model object by clicking links to PIM items, including action items, RFIs, and submittals, and their related email logs

Providing a shared visual context for joint decision-making

  • Evaluating Newforma-managed RFIs, submittals, action items and more in the context of their related model views
  • Quickly communicating and resolving design and construction challenges, accelerating production schedules

This session includes the following learning objectives based on an overview of the latest integrated technologies from Newforma and M-SIX VEO:

  • Understand how to more effectively manage the Information within a BIM enabled project
  • Understand how to improve the collaboration experience for all members of a project team and to enable an improved decision-making process
  • Understand how to maintain a history and audit trail of project processes and design decisions so that lessons can be learned and delivery of future projects can be improved and risks mitigated
