As Taschy explains, Autodesk is notable for AutoCAD within South Africa and that is practically where the AEC industry’s knowledge of Autodesk ends within the country. The nation’s professionals are skilled in AutoCAD but are not yet reaping the benefits implementing a BIM process can bring.
“One of the benefits of using Building Information Modelling, especially from an architectural point of view is the initial stages of design is getting your customers or clients to actually buy into your design,” states Mansfield. “A way BIM is going to speed up this process is using visualisation.”
South Africa as a nation has been slow to adopt Building Information Modelling, with interest in the process described as virtually non-existent back in May at GeoBIM 2015 by Laura Pinfold, Lecturer at Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
It is fantastic to see that professional like Laura, the CAD Corporation team and Autodesk’s Elizabeth Grant are helping put South Africa on the map due to their high quality of work. Hear our thoughts on the latter’s RTC Europe 2015 class here.
